So, what will Real's rebuild look like?

Going a season without a title always brings consequences in Real Madrid. In football, we saw how Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa lost their jobs, and in their Basketball section, it looks like Sergio Scariolo will have a similar outcome.

Their first move made by Real Madrid was to part ways with their new directors, like Sergio Rodriguez or Pocius, and move back to old reliable Sanchez, a year after his removal. Florentina, like with Mourinho's case, is going back to the old school days, getting a reliable and trusted person on a crucial role, after the New Wave (Xabi Alonso, Chacho and the former Lithunian SG/SF) failed. My question is, if the new guys were given truly given an opportunity...

An important change that has been done in relation to the Football section is, that, while the Sporting Director is a safe, proven choice, the coach selected by Sanchez is a risky option. Now, Pedro Martinez, as reported recently, is a great coach. This year he got the spotlight at an European scale, however, fans of Spanish basketball had already appreciated his first stint at Valencia or his excellent Manresa days. He had some major slip ups with his career, and sometimes he has been shown to lack a killer mentality, which has led to some lackluster performances when it matters most. What makes the deal surprising however is the fact that he is a declared anti-madridista, something that has brought criticism against him both by Real and Valencia fans. Some question marks have already appeared around Scariolo, who will get 3M in compensation, and reportedly had the support of key players like ACB MVP Mario Hezonja. There were some initial reports that he would stay, however this feeling got overturned by the Martinez news.

Roster wise, Real Madrid will look to replace Lyles and Okeke.  Both of them had in my opinion a good season, with the first one being an elite scorer and the latter an elite defender. The Los Blancos are interested in Jaime Pradilla, a player with ACB Homegrown status, looking to make an 11M investement on the Valencia PF. Kramer also looks to leave, after being barely used. Real has to get another Floor General behind Facu Campazzo, in order to move Maledon and Feliz to the SG, and it is imperative for them to get a true Tavares backup, something which Ibaka, Garuba, Fernando and Len have failed to do consistenly since Poirier's departure.

With Olympiacos, Fenerbahce, Panathinaikos looking very strong, and Hapoel, ASVEL or Dubai being the new riches, Real will have to do smart moves in the summer in order to compete. Thus far, it looks like Barca and Valencia, their biggest local threats are not in the best situation. The Blaugranas have been delt a huge blow with Pascual's departure, while the signings of elite players like Diallo, Mike James, Francisco or Babb have been a fiasco. The Taronjas, brand new ACB champions, are seeing how almost all of their key pieces are leaving. After the Cup final loss to Baskonia and the first round exit to Tenerife, Real will surely have a very busy summer.
